Group Visit Information
Schedule a group visit with a staff member from the Welcome Center. Our team is ready to answer any questions you have about Ball State.
Group visits are available for high school teachers, counselors, or community leaders to bring prospective students who are in the 9th -12th grade to Ball State.
NOTE: At this time, group visits are reserved for high school students only; however, we would still love for middle school students to experience Ball State. Our Office of Community Engagement offers visit opportunities for elementary and middle school groups.
The standard visit time is approximately 2 hours long. Group visits will either start at Lucina Hall or the L.A. Pittenger Student Center. The starting location will depend on your group size and arrival time, but it will be specified in your Group Visit Portal. Directions can be provided before your visit date by the Welcome Center and Group Visit Coordinator. You will also be greeted by the Welcome Center and Group Visit Coordinator when you arrive to Ball State, who will provide parking instructions to the bus driver and show students where to go.
Your visit can be customized based on the time you have available. You could have an Admissions Information Session. This 30-minute session includes a brief history of Ball State, its mission and values, housing and dining, immersive learning and study abroad opportunities; as well as campus resources, student life, and admission criteria. This could be before or after your tour.
You can also select one of two options for a student-led walking tour of campus. We offer a 90-minute walking tour, where students will get to see inside one of our Residence Halls, or a 60-minute walking tour without seeing a Resident Hall. Students will get to view landmarks on campus and tour academic buildings, recreational facilities, and if accessible, a residence hall. Guides are happy to try to incorporate information that particularly interests your group, so feel free to mention these interests at the start of your tour. We will do our best to accommodate your requests.
Note: The campus tour takes place in all weather conditions. Visitors are encouraged to wear comfortable walking shoes and clothing appropriate for weather elements.

Certain residence halls are available to tour for juniors and seniors only. Residence halls are unable to be seen before 10:00 a.m.
If your group is interested in learning additional information about a specific department or service on campus or you need special accommodations, please let the Welcome Center and Group Visit Coordinator know so that they can set up your request. To make a special request, please email groupvisits@bsu.edu.
Allow extra time in case of traffic, road construction, or inclement weather conditions. We schedule 15 minutes between your Arrival Time and first event in case groups need to use restrooms. If your group arrives late, this scheduled 15 minutes may need to be subtracted from your visit as our student guides and staff are scheduled for specific timeframes.
It is required to have one chaperone per 10 students registered. Chaperones play an important role in your visit. They help make your group’s visit a fun, memorable, and educationally rewarding experience. Teachers and chaperones set the standard for behavior and are responsible for the conduct of students. Chaperones are responsible for keeping their group together and should remain with the students at all times. We can cancel your tour if there are not enough chaperones for your group.
Students participating in the group visit are expected to display respect and be attentive during the information session and campus tour. Students should never walk in the streets other than when crossing. Students need to stay together and keep pace with their tour guide. They should not pass their tour guide. Our tour guides love their job and are excited to share their knowledge of campus with your students. Respect the tour guides by listening attentively and cooperating with instructions. Ask questions when the opportunity is given. If you plan to explore Ball State outside of the tour time, be respectful of the academic environment by keeping the volume down in classroom areas.
Ball State offers many dining options throughout campus. From colorful fresh fruit and veggie bars to house-smoked meats to sustainable seafood, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. If you plan to eat lunch on campus, students can either purchase their meals individually, or meal cards can be ordered through Ball State University Dining. If students are purchasing their own meals, we recommend students bring $10.
There is also the option to order meal cards through Ball State University Dining. Meal cards must be ordered at least ten (10) business days prior to your visit. University Dining can be reached at 765-285-1967 or dining@bsu.edu. If meal cards are not ordered at least ten (10) business days prior to the visit, students will need to bring money for lunch, as we can no longer offer larger transactions through the University Dining Locations. If you have any specific questions regarding lunch on campus, or how it would work into your schedule, please email groupvisits@bsu.edu.
