    Overview

Group visits are available for high school teachers, counselors, or community leaders to bring prospective students who are in the 9th -12th grade to Ball State.

Ball State’s high school group visits are Monday-Friday and are, on average, 90 to 120 minutes. Visits can be customized based on your group's interests and time available. The Group Visit Coordinator will work with you to schedule the details of your visit and will provide a full itinerary, parking information, and a personalized group visit portal.

NOTE: The Office of Admissions coordinates group visits for high school students only. However, we would still love for middle school students to experience Ball State. Our Office of Community Engagement offers visit opportunities for elementary and middle school groups.

    Schedule

Allow extra time in case of traffic, road construction, or inclement weather conditions.

We schedule 15 minutes between your arrival time and your first event in case groups need to use restrooms. If your group arrives late, the 15 minutes may need to be subtracted from your visit as our student guides and staff are only available for these reserved times.

A 30-minute session which includes a brief history of Ball State, its mission and values, housing and dining, immersive learning and study abroad opportunities; as well as campus resources, student life, and admission criteria.

You can select one of two options for a student-led walking tour of campus:

    • A 90-minute walking tour, where students will get to see inside one of our residence halls.
    • OR
    • A 60-minute walking tour without seeing a residence hall.

Both tour options will showcase landmarks across campus, academic buildings, and the main recreational facilities.

    Tour Tips:

    • Bring water to stay hydrated during your visit.
    • Wear comfortable walking shoes.
    • Check the weather in Muncie, Indiana on the day of your visit, so your students are prepared with the right gear—whether it's a jacket, umbrella, or sunscreen.

Special requests include learning additional information about a specific area of study, services and resources that support student success, and/or a closer look at a specific location on campus. To make a special request, email groupvisits@bsu.edu.

Accommodation requests can be made for such things as, but not limited to, interpreters, accessibility, and/or mobility needs. Accommodation requests can be made on the registration form.

If you plan to eat lunch on campus, students can either purchase their meals individually, or meal cards can be ordered through Ball State University Dining.

If students are purchasing their own meals:

    • We recommend students bring $10 - $12 for food.
    • All dining locations accept cash and card, excluding American Express

If meal cards are being ordered:

    • Contact University Dining at 765-285-1967 or dining@bsu.edu.
    • Meal cards must be ordered at least ten (10) business days prior to your visit.
      • If not ordered within the time frame, students will have to bring money for lunch.
      • Large transactions are not permitted at dining locations on the day of your visit.

Email groupvisits@bsu.edu for any questions regarding lunch.

    Responsibilities

It is required to have one chaperone per 10 students registered, and we can cancel your tour if there are not enough chaperones for your group.

Chaperones play an important role during your visit because they:

    • Help make your group's visit a fun, memorable, and educationally rewarding experience.
    • Set the standard for behavior.
    • Are responsible for the conduct of students.
    • Remain with the students at all times and keep their group together.

It is required that students participating in the group visit are expected to:

    • Display respect and be attentive during the entire visit experience.
    • Never walk in the streets other than when crossing.
    • Stay together, keep pace, and not pass their tour guide.
    • Respect the tour guides by cooperating with instructions.
    • Ask appropriate questions during the experience.
    • Be respectful of the academic environment by keeping the volume down in classroom areas if exploring Ball State outside of the scheduled time.
